In 2015 Nicky Epstein flew from the US especially to visit GMC Stand D25 at the Knitting & Stitching Show, to celebrate the launch of her new book Nicky Epstein Enchanted Knits for Dolls. We caught up with her to find out more about the inspiration behind the book and what she’s looking forward to most at the show!
1. What was the inspiration behind Enchanted Knits for Dolls?
After my “Knits For Dolls” book did so well, I was inspired to kick it up a notch and create costumes based on fantasy and fairy tale characters. There are also so many movies, TV shows, games, etc with enchanted themes it made my decision easy, and I adore all things mystical and magical that I encountered when I was a child. This book was really fun to do!
2. What’s your favourite design in the book?
Always a tough question! It’s like “which of your children do you prefer”. It’s usually the one I am currently working on although I have a little extra affection for the Mermaid. She is so very over the top!
3. You’re attending this year’s Knitting & Stitching, what are you most looking forward to at the show?
Mostly seeing old friends and making new ones…in the past the crowds have been so gracious to me and my work. I love seeing the new designs in all the categories, especially the student show, and of course the main floor display.
4. Do you have any grand plans for the future we should keep an eye out for?
Of course I live for the grand plans…being in London at the Alexandra Palace is a grand plan. I am working on two new books and hosting a knitting tour of Provence, South of France and Lyon in May 2016, and planning another trip in 2017.
5. Tea and cake or pie and a pint?
Tea and cake for me…pie and pint for my husband Howie (although I do love a good British pie).
