Knitting magazine shawl design competition terms and conditions
- Who Can Enter
1.1 The Knitting Magazine Shawl Design Competition (“The Competition”) is open to residents of the UK.
1.2 Employees of GMC Publications Ltd (“Promoters”) and their families and The Competition sponsors and their families are not eligible to enter.
1.3 Amateur, student and professional designers, of any age, resident in the UK, are eligible to enter.
1.4 Entrants aged under 18 on the closing date must obtain the permission of their parent/guardian to enter. The Promoter reserves the right to request proof of this permission.
- How To Enter
2.1 Entries to all categories must uploaded on The Competition page at knittingmag.com.
2.2 When taking photos, please make sure your camera or phone is set to the highest quality setting, so we can see your work at its best.
2.3 Ensure you use an easily identifiable and unique file name for each image.
2.4 By uploading images to The Competition website, you are agreeing to the terms & conditions of The Competition.
2.5 Once you have submitted your pictures, you cannot view or change your entry.
2.6 The closing date for entries is midnight on Wednesday 21 August 2019.
2.7 All entrants will receive a confirmation email. No responsibility is taken for lost, delayed, misdirected, corrupted or incomplete entries.
- Copyright & Reproduction
3.1 All images and work submitted must be the entrant’s own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third party materials including third party trademarks or trade names and/or content that you do not have permission to use.
3.2 All images/work submitted must not otherwise be obscene, defamatory or in breach of any applicable UK or local legislation or regulations. If the Promoter has reason to believe your entry is not the entrant’s own work or otherwise breaches these terms & conditions, then the entrant’s image will not be considered. The work must not previously have won a category or overall prize in any national or international-level design competition or have appeared in any UK or international publication, whether in print or online. Copyright of all entries remains with the designer at all times, but the Promoter and the sponsors of the Competitions and their associated group companies reserve the right to use, publish and republish entries in connection with The Competitions, without payment.
3.3 By entering this Competition the entrant grants permission to the Promoter and sponsors and their associated group companies to reproduce the entrant’s photos in any media (including without limitation on the Knitting magazine website, in Knitting magazine and other titles created by GMC Publications, whether or not the image is selected as a winning entry of any of the categories, but only in connection with this competition.
3.4 The entrant of a winning entry of one The Competition grants the Promoter and sponsors the right to use their name and town or city of residence for the sole purpose of identifying them as the author of the winning work.
3.5 It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure they have the relevant model and/or property releases and licences, where required.
3.6 By entering this Competition, the selected winners, runners up and creators of other noted designs are required, if asked, to send the piece at their own cost to: Shawl Design Competition, Knitting, GMC Publications Ltd, 86 High Street, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1XN, for photography.
3.7 After the event, the featured pieces will be packaged and returned to the owners.
- Judging
4.1 Entries will be judged on style, creativity, originality, knitting technique and presentation.
4.2 The winners will be determined by the judges in accordance with the Rules.
4.3 The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
4.4 No correspondence will be entered into prior to notifying the winners and publishing the winning entries.
4.5 The judges reserve the right not to award a prize if the required standard is deemed not to have been reached.
4.6 Prizes are subject to the sponsor’s or supplier’s standard terms & conditions.
- General
5.1 The Promoter or sponsors or their associated group companies shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury of any nature howsoever caused, sustained by any entrant under this Competition. However, nothing in these terms & conditions shall have the effect of excluding or restricting liability for personal injury, death, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation caused by the proven negligence of employees or agents of the Promoter or sponsors or their associated group companies.
5.2 The sponsors or suppliers shall not be liable for any failure to supply the prizes where such failure is caused by any supervening circumstances outside their control which amount to force majeure and which without the fault of either party renders performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.
5.3 The Promoter reserves the right to void, amend, and/or change the rules of The Competition or these terms & conditions at any time without incurring any liability whatsoever.
5.4 Where applicable, any data captured during the course of the promotion will be collated, accessed, processed and stored wholly in accordance with applicable UK Data Protection Laws and Regulations. The Promoter will use reasonable endeavours to ensure no data will be transmitted to, or processed or stored by third party organisations (other than the sponsors or their associated companies in connection with this Competition) or transmitted outside the EEA.
5.5 If entrants do not wish for their contact information to be used for marketing purposes or to enable the Promoter or sponsors to contact them in future regarding similar competitions or sponsors’ promotions, they should contact the Promoter (see details down below).
5.6 Entries that do not comply with these terms & conditions will be rejected.
5.7 These terms & conditions are governed by English law and any dispute in relation to them shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
