May 2020- Out now!

Article

This month we are showing off bright spring colours for the new season and exploring the possibilities of rib stitches. We’ve got lacy ribs, diagonal ribs, cabled ribs, horizontal ribs, entrelac ribs, ribs in a kite shawl and much more. We have ribs both fitted and flowing, cosy and cool – in fact, any way you want to wear them for the changing spring weather. There are nineteen beautiful knits including the stunning Promise shawl by Brian Smith knitted in hand-dyed speckled neon yarn by Hedgehog Fibres; lovely Helsinki by Anniken Allis an easy-to-wear cardigan that features an all-over diagonal lace rib design and is shaped at the shoulders using German short rows; Crossover Back T-shirt by Sarah Murray a cute alpaca wool design knitted in pieces and then sewn together to feature a textured front and pretty split-back; Emmie by Jo Allport a gorgeous bright yellow jumper that features a lacy rib pattern and is knitted in an innovative eco-yarn from Cascade; and Bette by Bronagh Miskelly a vintage-inspired stylish top with polka dot rib pattern and cute button details. This month we also have some fascinating insights into sustainable fashion with designs using recycled yarns and a feature on the fantastic Valentina Karellas, a young London-based designer who machine-knits her creations to order and never wastes a scrap of yarn. She shares her organic, sustainable lifestyle and slow fashion ethos, and offers tips for Knitting readers who want to make more and waste less. As well as a round of the exciting new yarns you can expect to find in your local yarn store this season. So with all that plus our regular features, there’s lots to keep you busy in the May issue of Knitting, out now!
