Pattern: Valentine’s Day Coffee Cup Cosy

This quick and easy coffee cup cosy (first featured in Knitting 151) uses only one ball of yarn, and is ideal for a first time cabling project. The cosy would make a cute Valentine’s Day gift for a loved one, or a treat for yourself!

YOU WILL NEED

Alpaca Select Inti DK 50% alpaca, 50% acrylic (105m per 50g)

1 x 50g skein in Sun Dry Tomato 10

1 pair each of 3.25mm and 4mm needles

Cable needle

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

 

TENSION

22 sts and 29 rows to 10cm (4in) square over
st st using 4mm needles

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary
to obtain correct tension.

 

ABBREVIATIONS

CN = cable needle

C4B = Slip next 2 sts to CN and hold at back,
k2 then k2 from CN

C4F = Slip next 2 sts to CN and hold at front,
k2 then k2 from CN

 

COFFEE CUP COZY

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 46 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: As row 1.

Change to 4mm needles.

Row 3: K1, m1, k8, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k8, m1, k1 (48 sts).

Row 4: P10, k2, p4, k2, p12, k2, p4, k2, p10.

Row 5: K10, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k10.

Row 6: As row 4.

Row 7: K1, m1, k9, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k9, m1, k1 (50 sts).

Row 8: P11, k2, p4, k2, p12, k2, p4, k2, p11.

Row 9: K11, p2, C4F, p2, k12, p2, C4B, p2, k11.

Row 10: As row 8.

Row 11: K1, m1, k10, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k10, m1, k1 (52 sts).

Row 12: P12, k2, p4, k2, p12, k2, p4, k2, p12.

Row 13: K12, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k12.

Row 14: As row 12.

Row 15: K1, m1, k11, p2, k4, p2, k12, p2, k4, p2, k11, m1, k1 (54 sts).

Cast off in rib.

 

TO FINISH OFF

Weave in loose ends. Use mattress stitch to sew the side seams together.
